Reyansh’s POV
The night hadn’t ended with dessert. It had ended with a threat.
By dawn, Reyansh Malhotra was standing in a deserted warehouse near the docks, the stench of sea salt and rust clinging to the air. His men had tracked down the black SUV from the previous night. Now three of the masked men knelt before him, their hands tied, blood on their lips from the fight it took to capture them.
“You thought you could block my car?” Reyansh’s voice was calm, almost eerily soft, but his eyes burned like steel. “Tell me… who sent you?”
Silence. The men kept their heads low.
Rudra, standing beside him, slammed his gun against one of their backs. The man grunted in pain but still didn’t speak.
Reyansh crouched down, gripping one man’s jaw, forcing him to look up. “You threatened her.” His voice dropped to a whisper. “For that alone, I should end you right here.”
The man trembled, sweat dripping down his forehead. “W-We were only given orders… not the name.”
Reyansh’s eyes narrowed. Orders… but no face.
He stood, brushing his palms against his yellow shirt like their existence had dirtied it. “Find out who paid them,” he ordered coldly. “I don’t care if you have to tear this city apart.”
But in the back of his mind, one thought burned brighter than all others—someone dared to drag Kaira into his war.
And he wasn’t going to rest until he crushed them.

Later That Evening
For the first time since the warehouse, Reyansh allowed himself a pause. His phone buzzed. The name on the screen made his lips curve ever so slightly—Sunshine.
He answered instantly. “Yes?”
Her voice was soft, tired but glowing with excitement. “Guess what?”
He leaned back in his chair, loosening the cuffs at his wrist. “What?”
“I got the job,” she squealed. “The interview I was stressing about last week—I cleared it!”
For a moment, Reyansh felt the heaviness in his chest ease. Just her happiness was enough to make him forget the blood on his hands.
“That’s good,” he murmured. “Congratulations.”
“You don’t sound excited!” she accused playfully.
He smirked faintly. “I am. But you don’t need their company. You could join mine. I’d make sure you have the best position, the best everything.”
Her reply was immediate. “No.”
Reyansh’s brows furrowed. “No?”
“I want to do this on my own. If I take a shortcut, people will say I didn’t earn it. I want to prove myself. Please understand?”
For a long moment, silence filled the line. He didn’t like it—didn’t like the idea of her struggling when he could give her the world. But then he closed his eyes and exhaled.
“You’re stubborn,” he muttered.
“And you like that about me,” she teased softly.
His lips curved the slightest bit. “Maybe.” His voice dropped, husky now. “But remember this—wherever you are, whatever you do… you’re not unprotected.”
Her heart skipped. She didn’t reply, only biting her lip with a blush he couldn’t see through the phone.

Kaira’s POV
I hung up, my cheeks still warm. He could be bossy, overprotective, impossible… but he cared. More than anyone else ever had.
I glanced at the confirmation email from my new company, my chest swelling with pride. Tomorrow, a new chapter of my life was about to begin.
Little did I know… the name of the company printed at the top of the email would one day shatter the fragile peace I had built.

Reyansh’s POV – Same Night
Reyansh sat in his study, Rudra entered quietly.
“We checked, bhaiya,” he reported. “The SUV men… they’re foot soldiers of the Verma Syndicate.”
Reyansh’s jaw tightened. The Vermas. Rivals. Enemies. And now—bold enough to threaten him through Kaira.
“They’ll regret this,” Reyansh said coldly, his eyes glinting like knives.
But what he didn’t know—what none of them knew—was that the same Verma Syndicate owned the very company where Kaira had just signed her contract.
