Chapter: New Beginnings

Kaira’s POV

It was 4 a.m. and my body felt like collapsing. All the wedding rituals were finally over, and only the ones in Delhi remained.

The wedding lights had dimmed, the music had gone silent, but my heart still echoed with emotions. My brother wasn’t just mine anymore—he belonged to someone else too. Watching him walk away with his bride tonight, hand in hand, felt like a piece of my childhood was walking away too.

All those silly fights, late-night secrets, and protective hugs—suddenly, they were just memories. I was happy, truly happy for him, but a tiny ache lingered. Our bond had shifted forever. He was stepping into a new life, and all I could do was pray silently that no matter how far he went, he’d always find his way back to me—his sister who loved him beyond words.

I slipped into my nightdress, thoughts still circling around him. After a while, exhaustion took over, and I drifted into sleep.

Author’s POV

By morning, the house buzzed with the chaos of packing. The flight to Delhi was scheduled, and everyone was running around, gathering luggage, ensuring nothing was left behind.

Kaira carefully zipped her suitcase shut, then sat at her dresser to do her skincare. Just as she applied cream to her cheeks, her phone chimed with a notification.

Her heart skipped. The name on the screen made her blink twice. Him.

She had already saved his number—quietly, secretly—but she was shocked to see a message because she never gave him her number.

Reyansh: Heyyy 💕

Her heart raced. Fingers trembling, she typed back:

Kaira: How did you get my number?

Almost instantly, the reply came:

Reyansh: How do you know it’s my number? That means you already saved it 😉

Biting her lip, she quickly came up with an excuse.

Kaira: I have my bhaiya’s friends’ numbers saved for emergencies.

Reyansh: Nice excuse, btw 😏 So… are you free this weekend?

Kaira: Why?

Reyansh: For dinner.

Kaira’s eyes widened. Her heartbeat jumped, and her cheeks flushed with happiness. He had finally asked her. She wanted to scream “yes,” but her pride stopped her.

Kaira: Umm… maybe not. I’ll let you know Saturday night.

In truth, she was dying to say yes, but she didn’t want him to know how crazy she already was for him.

Reyansh: Okayy💗

Kaira blushed harder, whispering to herself, “What’s with these cute emojis?”

Just then, Aarohi barged in.

“Kii! Are you ready yet? Why are your cheeks so red? Are you okay?”

Kaira scrambled, “Y-Yeah, I’m fine. Just applied too much tint.”

Aarohi narrowed her eyes. “If it’s tint, then why are you staring at your phone again and again? And Kii, I know you. This isn’t tint—you’re blushing. Now tell me, why are you blushing?”

Kaira snatched her suitcase. “I’ll tell you everything later. For now, let’s go before Bhaiya starts giving his lecture.”

Aarohi raised a brow but followed her out.

Reyansh’s POV

I finally asked her for dinner. She didn’t say yes, but she didn’t say no either. Somewhere deep down, I hoped her “maybe” meant yes.

A knock pulled me from my thoughts.

“Come in,” I said.

My PA, Aarav, entered. “Sir, you have a meeting scheduled with Mr. Vikram Joshi and his daughter. They’re waiting.”

“Alright. I’m coming.”

I walked into the meeting room, greeting Mr. Joshi and his daughter. The project presentation began, and their idea was surprisingly solid.

“I like your concept, Mr. Joshi. Aarav will prepare the agreement. The meeting is concluded,” I said, standing to leave.

But Mr. Joshi stopped me. “Mr. Malhotra, one more favor… could you appoint my daughter as your PA?”

His tone was almost demanding. I stiffened. “I’m sorry, Mr. Joshi. I don’t work with references. Not as my PA, not even as an employee.”

He sighed. “At least give her a chance. She can appear for an interview. Just… consider it.”

I studied his daughter briefly, then nodded curtly. “Fine. She can give an interview. Nothing more.”

With that, I turned and walked back to my cabin, my thoughts strangely drifting back to her. To Kaira.
